Fluoridation accident Mason USA

The Hastings Safe Water Association

4/11/05
Dear Editor,
It has been reported on November 2nd that in Mason USA a chemical feed pump malfunctioned on Friday 28th October, and was not discovered for three days. This malfunction caused a large section of the city's drinking water to be flooded with toxic levels of fluoride.
Ken Baker, superintendent of public works said “Officials caught the malfunction Monday and corrected it.”
He added that “the State Department of Environmental Quality was notified of the event and that an investigation to determine the cause of the malfunction is under way. The city's fluoride level is usually one part fluoride per million gallons of water. Over the weekend, it reached three parts per million at its highest level.”
Can the NSW Health Department and the Hastings Council give us a 100% guarantee that an accident of this sort could not happen here? Residents have the right to know and to have that guarantee.
It is disturbing to think that in the home of Fluoridation, the U.S., an accident of this sort could happen and not be detected for three days. Three parts per million is a dangerous level to ingest, for such a long time, especially when added to the environmental Pollution of Fluorides we all are exposed to today.
This is much more toxic for babies and those with chronic illness such as Kidney Disease.
To show their good faith and concern for the people of the Hastings, we ask that Mayor Drew and the General Manager of our Council Mr Smith sign a guarantee taking full financial responsibility for any injury to people or the environment caused, should an accident ever occur here in the Hastings.
Yours sincerely
Therese Mackay
President of the Hastings Safe Water Association Ph. 0265839622
